Three Davidson Soccer Players Earn Academic Honors

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Three members of the Davidson women's soccer team have recently been named to the 2001 NSCAA/adidas Scholar Athlete South Region team. Recognized for their academic and athletic achievements, juniors Heather Maloney, Amy Johnston and Lauren Dennis are members of the elite list.

Maloney, a forward from Ridgefield, Conn., was named to the all-region second team. The biology major has compiled a 3.31 GPA while at Davidson and has been a major contributor to the Wildcat effort. Maloney, who holds Davidson single season scoring records, scored three goals during the 2001 season.

Johnston and Dennis were all-region third team selections. Johnston, a defender from Dublin, Ohio, started all 21 contests for the 'Cats this season and was an integral member of the backfield. The biology major has a 3.65 GPA. Dennis of Charlotte, N.C., is a psychology major and has earned a 3.43 GPA while at Davidson. The midfielder, who started each Wildcat contest, scored a goal and made two assists during the season.

To be eligible for the award, junior or senior student-athletes must have a minimum 3.3 GPA and be a starter or significant contributor to the team's efforts.
