McRoberts To Resign As Cougar Volleyball Coach

Charleston, S.C. -- The College of Charleston announced Nov. 19
that head women's volleyball coach Jewel McRoberts will resign at the end
of the season.

McRoberts will be moving to Indianapolis with her husband Claude
who recently received a job promotion and transfer.

McRoberts, who's in her seventh season, has led the Cougars to a
122-94 record including a 26-5 mark this season and a share of their second
straight Southern Conference regular season title with an 18-2 league
record. Charleston is riding a 19-match winning streak, the third longest
in the nation.

McRoberts spent 1995 rebuilding the volleyball program at Gardner
Webb University as head coach. She took a team that won only four matches
in 1994 and had placed last in the conference to a team that won 14 games
and finished fifth in it's league. Gardner Webb ended the season with a
14-15 record, which was the best record in school history. The squad won
more conference matches in 1995 then the team had won in the last six
seasons combined. She led her team as it shattered the record books,
doubling the number of kills, assists, digs, and service aces totaled in
any previous season.

McRoberts attended Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla.,
from 1989-91. While there she earned a spot on the All-State team and
All-Conference team in 1990 and was named to the Who's Who Among Junior
College Athletes. She was an Academic All-American with an overall GPA of
3.75.

In 1991 McRoberts transferred to Furman where she graduated in
1993. As a Paladin she earned Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week honors
twice and made the All-Tournament team in 1993. This team captain in 1992
and 1993 played for a squad that won the Southern Conference Championship
in 1993. She earned the Furman Purple Heart Award and was on the Southern
Conference Honor Roll from 1991 to 1993. She was a Phi Beta Kappa and
carried an overall GPA of 3.67 to graduate Magna Cum Laude.

After graduating from Furman, McRoberts attended the University of
Florida where she earned her Masters in Exercise and Sport Sciences.
