Women's Basketball 11/14/2002 6:11:00 AM Southern Conference Exhibition: Wofford Downs Smoky Mountain Swarm SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The young Lady Terrier basketball team gotthe victory in its first contest of the season, defeating the SmokeyMountain Swarm 74-66 in an exhibition game in the Benjamin JohnsonArena. Wofford came out strong, starting the game with a 10-0 run whichincluded six points from sophomore Brie Bradshaw. The Lady Terriersextended their lead to as much as 17 points in the first half whenfreshman Becky Sasso converted a layup to push the score to 30-13. TheSwarm fought back, though, and ended the half with a 7-0 run to closethe gap to just six at 35-29. Uneka Webb scored the last four points ofthe period. Smokey Mountain shot well early in the second half, outscoringWofford 11-5 to tie the score at 40. The Swarm never managed to gain thelead, though, as a layup by sophomore Maria Renner, a trey by RicayeHarris, and a pair of Sasso free throws put the Lady Terriers ahead byseven. Smokey Mountain would never get closer than five for theremainder of the contest, and Wofford took the 74-66 win. Bradshaw led the Lady Terriers with 20 points on the night, togo with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomore StephanieRiberger had a double-double, tallying 16 points and and a game-high 10rebounds to go with three blocks. Harris finished the night with 17points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman NakiaMister had eight points and eight boards in the game. The Swarm were led offensively by Denise Wilbanks, who gathered13 points and three assists. Quicha Floyd also scored in double digitswith 10 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. Webb had ateam high seven rebounds and added nine points. The Lady Terriers begin their regular season Nov. 22-23, whenthey take part in the Indiana Classic in Bloomington, Ind. Wofford willface host Indiana on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m. before taking on either BallState or Houston on the second day. The Lady Terriers will have theirhome opener on Nov. 26, when they take on Limestone at 5 p.m.
