Western Carolina Baseball Field Add Lights

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina's baseball future got brighter Oct. 9 with the installation of lights at Hennon Stadium/Childress Field. Also being installed is a new public address system.

New lights and PA at the baseball field is the second visible sign of progress, along with the renovation of the Field House, as the athletics department strives to make Western the best in the Southern Conference, joining already completed projects like the new Carolina West Sports Medicine Center and the new team room in the Ramsey Center.

"This is actually the first step in the Phase Two project, which will include the baseball field and a new track/soccer/tennis complex," said WCU Athletics Director Jeff Compher. "We worked hard to get the lights up first. At the completion of the 2003 baseball season, the field will be renovated with new turf, dirt and drainage system, giving us a state of the art playing surface. The baseball program deserves to have a first class place to play since they have had the single-most success in the department."

The Western Carolina baseball team is slated to host several events this weekend accompanying the Keith LeClair's induction to the WCU Athletics Hall of Fame. LeClair will be inducted along with Lori Lyons Wilson, Thomas "Bubba" Wilson, Paul Jones and Clyde Simmons prior to the WCU-Georgia Southern football game on Oct. 12. The ceremony is set to begin at 10:30 am on the Ramsey Center concourse. Kickoff for the football game is set for 2 pm.
