Davidson Open New Year at Gettysburg College

GETTYSBURG, PA - Only four Wildcat wrestlers traveled up to Pennsylvania to take part in the Gettysburg College quad-match, but two of the four won both matches on the day to kick off the new year.

Sophomore Mark O'Hair (165 pounds) and freshman Brandon Zeigler (197) each notched victories against their opponents from Gettysburg and Pensacola Christian. O'Hair took care of Mark McDonald of Gettysburg by way of technical fall, 16-0. In his next match, O'Hair pinned Joel Porcher of Pensacola Christian at 3:56.

Zeigler also won one of his matches by fall, pinning Chad Lasher of Pensacola Christian at 1:04. His other win came by injury default over Dana Barschdorf of Gettysburg.

Senior Jeff Bender (157) picked up a 5-1 decision over Tom Fives of Gettysburg while sophomore Grant Doornbos (149) had a 11-1 major decision over Gettysburg's Jake Williams. However, Bender and Doornbos each fell in their respective Pensacola Christian contests.

Davidson won all four matches contested against Gettysburg.

Because the Wildcats only had four wrestlers compete, neither team score counted as an official match.

The 'Cats continue their keystone state roadswing by taking on Duquesne and Thiel on Monday, January 7, at 3:00 p.m in Pittsburgh.
