UNC Greensboro Tops Wofford 4-0

Spartanburg, SC -- UNC Greensboro scored twice in the opening four minutes en route to a 4-0 men's soccer victory over Wofford tonight at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

Alejandro Moreno and Chris Goos each scored a pair of goals to lead the Spartans. Moreno found the net just 2:57 into the match, on an assist from Goos, to give UNCG (2-3, 1-1) a quick 1-0 lead. Goos then scored 58 seconds later to extend the margin to 2-0. Moreno's second goal of the night at the 11:16 mark gave the Spartans a 3-0 halftime lead.

The match was then scoreless for the next 74:01 before Goos closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 85:17.

Joe Crump had six saves in goal for the Spartans while Eric Williams stopped four shots for Wofford (1-4, 0-1) in its SoCon opener. UNCG outshot the Terriers by a 15-10 margin.

Michael Gonzales had a team-high four shots for the Terriers, who travel to Appalachian State on Friday. The Spartans host Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Nationally-Ranked South Carolina Defeats Wildcat Men's Soccer 4-1

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Davidson men's soccer team had its four-match winning streak snapped, as they dropped a 4-1 decision to the No. 17 South Carolina Gamecocks Wednesday night at Eugene Stone Stadium. Davidson is now 5-2 on the season while USC improves to 5-2 on the year.

The Wildcats took the early lead as senior Chris Norbet (Belleville, Ill.) fed a pass to senior Jon Tetirick (Cincinnati, Ohio) for the first goal in the 28th minute of action. Davidson held the Gamecocks scoreless in the first half and headed into intermission with momentum and the lead.

Davidson saw its one-goal lead erased just over eight minutes into the second period as Ryan Daley tied the game. USC went ahead just five minutes later on a goal from Joey Worthen.

The Wildcats continued to keep the pressure on South Carolina, but were unable to produce a tying goal. Jordan Quinn put USC up two goals at the 67:31 mark and Ryan Stocking added a late goal to seal the victory.

The 'Cats were outshot by South Carolina 12-7 for the game and did not take a corner kick all evening. Davidson junior goalie Soren Johnson (Blowing Rock, N.C.) made three saves on the evening.

Davidson heads to the midwest for two weekend games. The Wildcats take on the Xavier Musketeers in Cincinnati, Ohio on Friday at 7:00 and then travel to Indiana to play the Evansville Purple Aces on Sunday at 1:00. The 'Cats return to SoCon action with a game at The Citadel on Oct. 4 before returning home on Oct. 9 to play Appalachian State.
