The Southern Conference in the Unlimited Potential/BayTree Classic

Southern Conference Round-up:

UNC Greensboro finished third at the Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic. Host school, the College of Charleston finished fifth. Western Carolina finished 18th at 973, East Tennessee State was 21st at 988, Appalachian State placed 27th (1008), and Wofford was 29th at 1032.

Western Carolina took first place in the Green Course Championship.

ASU Women's Golf 27th in Tournament

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Appalachian State women's golf team finished in 27th place in the Unlimited Potential/BayTree Golf Plantation Tournament held Sept. 7-8 in Myrtle Beach.

The top Mountaineer finisher was Charleen Bradley, who had rounds of 80 and 83 to tie for 64th place.

In the 28-team field, other Mountaineers finished from 116th to 143rd place. Leigh Many shot rounds of 84 and 86 for a total of 170 and a tie for 116th place. Ashley Romino tied for 131st with rounds of 90 and 83 for a total score of 173. Newcomer Jennifer Monko placed 137th with rounds of 83 and 91 for a total of 174. Rounding out the ASU field was Tracyann McCall, who tied for 143rd with rounds of 87 and 90 for a total score of 177.

The Mountaineer golf team is coached by Bill Dicus.


Cougars Finish Fifth at Bay Tree Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - UNC Wilmington shot a tournament-low 299 on the Silver Course to take the 2001 Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic title by seven strokes over second place East Carolina.

The College of Charleston women's golf team shot a 941 to finish in fifth. In the consolation championship played on the Green Course it was Western Carolina who shot a 973 to take the title.

UNC Greensboro came in third with a 930 and in fourth was Iowa, with a 931. Heather McMunn of UNC Wilmington took individual honors as she shot a 71 the third round to total a 222 for the tournament. Sapna Patel led the Cougar effort with a 19th place finish while Lori Straub came in 29th. In 45th was Kelley Goff and in 52nd was Jenny Heskett.

Rounding out the Cougar five was Jennifer Bridwell who came in 69th. Charleston's Kelly Robinson, playing as an individual, finished in 91st while Amanda Helleaus came in 133rd. Amanda Lux finished in 143rd.



UNCG Women's Golf Takes Third At Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic

Spartans shoot second lowest round of the tournament and sixth-lowest in school history

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The UNCG women's golf team, behind strong performances from Jenny Gleason and Dani Heimbecker, carded a 300 today to move up two spots and claim third place with a 930 54-hole score at the Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Spartans' third-round score is tied for the sixth lowest round in school history, and was also the second-lowest of the tournament, which is the largest women's golf event in the nation with a field of 32 teams.

Gleason, the 2000 co-medalist, shot an even-par 72 to tie eighth at 227 to lead UNCG. Heimbecker not only tied her career-best 18-hole score with a 75 today, but her final score of 236, which tied her 26th, is also a new career-best.

Also for the Spartans, Jessica Fought tied for 23rd at 235, while Briana Vega and Zuzana Kamasova both finished in a tie for 29th at 237.

The top three teams were all North Carolina schools. UNC Wilmington shot a 299 today to finish at 916, seven strokes ahead of runner-up East Carolina. Rounding out the top five, Iowa was one stroke behind the Spartans, fourth at 931, while host College of Charleston was fifth at 941.


WCU Women's Golf Wins Green Course Championship At Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf team won the Green Course Championship at the Unlimited Potential/Baytree in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Lady Catamounts shot their lowest 54-hole total of 973 (330-322-321). They entered the Green Course Championship with a nine shot lead and had increased it to 14 by the days end.

Leading the Lady Cats was sophomore Rebecca Twiner, who placed second with rounds of 79, 80, and 76. She was followed by freshman Jo Lundberg placing eighth with scores of 81, 81, and 78. Freshman Line Cordes finished 11th shooting rounds of 83, 79, and 83. The trio all posted scores that rank in the top five 54-hole totals in WCU history. Twiner's round of 235 was the second best 54-hole total ever recorded by a Lady Catamount.

Rounding out the scoring for Western were senio Mary Faulk and freshman Meredith Beck. Faulk shot 253 (87-82-84), who placed 32nd, while Beck shot 279 (96-88-95) placed 65th.


Lady Terriers Place 11th at Unlimited Potential Green Course Championship

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Wofford College women's golf team finished in 11th place after the three rounds of play at the Unlimited Potential/Bay Tree Classic Green Course Championship at the Bay Tree Golf Plantation (par 72, 5,912 yards) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Southern Conference squad Western Carolina took the championship by a landslide, finishing a full 14 shots lower than runner-up New Orleans. East Tennessee State finished third.

Meredith Healy was the top Lady Terrier performer with a three-day total of 252.
