On the season ahead
"We've got another season at hand and the biggest challenge we've faced since we've been here," Wofford Head Coach Mike Ayers said. "We have a tremendous schedule with a tremendous opener in Clemson before finishing with a Youngstown State team that's ranked fourth in the country. We also have the likes of Georgia Southern, Furman, and Appalachian State.

On the team as a whole
"We have a good group of kids coming back and a freshman class that we're excited about. We have a lot of work to do, but we believe that we can have a good football team. A big key for us is developing depth quickly with the young kids and staying healthy. If we do that, we'll have a pretty fair team."

On being ranked 24th in the Sports Network Preseason Poll
"The national rankings are deserved because we've proven it on the field. We were just a coat of paint away from being in the playoffs last year. Our goal is to have a better year this year. It will be tougher because of the schedule but it can be done if we'll do what we're supposed to do."

"We hope last year's ranking and accomplishments add credibility to what we're trying to do," Ayers said. "There were a lot of folks who thought we were crazy in moving to Division I-AA (1995) and the Southern Conference (1997). They felt we couldn't be competitive but we've shown that we can be. We've probably pushed ahead a little quicker than most people thought we could.
