Women's Basketball 8/15/2001 4:13:00 AM Southern Conference Spartans In Europe: Day Ten, Travel To Stockholm Stockholm, Sweden- The teams leave Norway for their final stop on its Europe tour, in Stockholm, Sweden.Courtney EldridgeThe day starts with a long bus ride from Oslo to Stockholm. We left Oslo around 9:30 am and didn't get to Stockholm until 6:30 pm. We were able to stop and stretch several times though. After checking in the hotel it was dinner time. After dinner, about half the group went to downtown Stockholm via the public transportation system (subway). It was about a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway train station. The fare for the train was 16 kronner each way.Once on the train, we went three stops to reach downtown. Downtown Sotckholm is like a mini-Times Square. Buildings and lights flood the area. There are numerous places to shop. By the time we got there, it was 10:15 pm and we had a 12 am curfew. so there wasn't too much time to do anything. After walking around for an hour and a half, James (Maye), Tizzo (Johnson), Ronnie (Taylor), Pete (Tsampas), John (Hines), and myself went to McDonalds for a late night meal, then met the others at the station. The trip back was very adventurous. We got off at the right station, but used the wrong exit out of the station. After walking for two minutes we realized we were lost. We could see where we wanted to go, but just couldn't get there. After climbing fences, crossing railroad tracks, and walking through some bushes, we finally made it back safely.Sandi ReidYes! We didn't have time to load the bus again until 9 am, so the majority of us didn't eat breakfast until 8:30. We got the extra hour and a half of sleep because both teams won our games the night before. Our whole day consisted of traveling from Oslo to Stockholm, which took about nine hours. One stop that we made on our way to Stockholm was at McDonalds. This was the first time that I think most of us had eaten there while in another country. The food tasted pretty much the same, but I would have to say that the McDonalds here was a little dry.We finally arrived at the hotel, which I must say is really nice. The rooms are so much more spacious than any other hotel that we have stayed in. We actually have to use our slide our room key into a slot to cut on the lights - it's kind of neat. After dinner some of the group went to downtown Stockholm, while the rest of us stayed at the hotel and played cards or just went to sleep.Well, that was our day and right now it's about that time for me to jump in the bed. Keep us in your prayers, because we do play again tomorrow and things can get pretty rough.
