Men's Outdoor Track and Field 7/4/2001 7:50:00 PM Southern Conference Lenda Butcher Named Enhanced Running Assistant At UNCG GREENSBORO, N.C. - Lenda Butcher was appointed assistant coach of UNCGUs men's and women's enhanced running (cross country/track) teams effective July 1, according to head coach Dan Dachelet.Butcher will be responsible for coordinating travel and monitoring the teams' academic progress. She will assist with recruiting and workouts, as well as coaching at meets."Lenda brings a lot of experience in sport management and will assist us in the development of a top-notch running program," said Dachelet. "While she'll help with the development of the runners we already have, I'm excited about her enthusiasm for promoting the program and building it to the standard that I'd like it to reach."Butcher spent the 1999-00 academic year as associate coach for women's track at Springfield (MA). In that capacity she performed administrative duties surrounding meets, including registering the team for competition and recording times. She also ran practices and acted as a liaison between student-athletes and the head coach.Butcher was a three-sport student-athlete at Defiance (OH), competing in volleyball, cross country and track from 1994-98. She was co-captain of the volleyball team as a senior in 1997 and ranked 12th nationally in NCAA Division III in digs (4.85/gm.). She also broke the team record for digs.She was named to the AVCA All-Academic team in volleyball and the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches' Association All-Academic team in cross country as a junior in 1996.Butcher was an athletic administration intern at Springfield in 1999 and was the assistant intramurals director at Defiance in 1997.She earned a master of education degree in athletic administration from Springfield in May 2000 and a bachelor of science degree in sports management from Defiance in May 1998.
