2001 Mountain Dew Southern Conference Men's Basketball Championship

UNC Greensboro won its first-ever Mountain Dew Southern Conference Basketball Championship with a thrilling 67-66 win over Chattanooga on Sunday, March 4, 2001.

The Spartans had trailed 66-65 before forward David Schuck took a length of the court pass from Jay Joseph and made a lay-up with 0.4 seconds remaining to lift UNCG to the championship.

UNCG, the number two seed from the North Division of the SoCon, advanced to the title game after beating Western Carolina, 91-69, in the quarterfinals and Davidson, 73-68, in the semifinals.

Chattanooga's Toot Young earned SoCon Most Outstanding Player honors after averaging 19.3 points in three games and draining a tournament-high 12 three-point field goals.
