#2 Furman defeats #3 Georgia Southern 3-1
CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Furman pitcher Kelly Jack limited Georgia Southern to three hits and drove in one of the Lady Paladins' three runs Friday as Furman beat the Eagles 3-1 in game eight of the 2001 Sonic Southern Conference Softball Tournament at Jim Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, TN.
Jack (10-8) went the distance allowing only an unearned run in the fifth inning. She struck out two.
Second-seeded Furman went ahead 2-0 in the first inning. LaKerah Barr tripled in the first inning with Karen Myers getting to base on balls. Kay Brittain then singled, bringing in Barr. Jack drove Myers in off a sacrifice fly to centerfield for the 2-0 lead. Georgia Southern scored its only run in the fifth inning when Tabitha Robinson drove in Lacey Kammerer. Furman added another run in the sixth off a home run from Brittain, her fourth of the season.
Aimee Littlejohn (9-14) took the loss for third-seeded GSU. She allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Eagles (23-32) take on eighth-seeded Appalachian State Saturday at 2 p.m., while Furman (27-27) plays No. 1 seed Chattanooga.
