The UNCG women's golf team tied for eighth after shooting a 321 on March 20 in the third round for a 948 final score at the the Waterlefe-USF Invitational, held at the Waterlefe Golf & Rover Club in Brandenton, FL.
Northwestern took the team title, carding a day-best 301 for an 896 54-hole tally, seven strokes ahead of runner-up and host South Florida (903). Campbell was third at 916, Tulane fourth at 922, and UCF fifth at 934. Miami jumped four spots into a tie for sixth with Louisville at 944, while UNCG held on to its standing after two rounds for eighth along with Florida International. Southern Conference member Charleston finished 11th at 953.
Zuzana Kamasova led the Spartans as she tied 25th at 233. Jessica Fought tied 29th at 235, while Jenny Gleason fell into a tie for 36th at 237. Dani Heimbecker tied 52nd at 243, and Briana Vega tied 72nd at 255.
Michelle Simpson of Florida International took medalist honors with a 54-hole three-over par 219, three shots ahead of runner-ups Emily Gilley of Northwestern and Sharon O'Neill of Campbell.
The Spartans will next compete in the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational, held at the River Landing County Club March 26-27 in Wallace, NC.
