Harrelson, Chisholm Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

Asheville, NC -- Appalachian State's Mary Jayne Harrleson and VMI's John Chisholm have been selected the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for February 7.

A senior from Timberlake, NC, Harrelson ran in two major NCAA qualifying races last weekend. She finished fourth in the 8000-meters at the Millrose Games on February 2nd in a time of 2:08.37, qualifying her for the NCAA Indoor Nationals. The mark ties her for second among the national leaders and leads the conference. On February 4th, Harrelson finished fifth in the mile at the New Balance Invitational in Boston, MA, in a time of 4:40.98. Her time qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Nationsl as well and leads the conference.

A senior from Riveria Beach, FL, Chisholm won the 35-lb weight throw with a record mark of 64' 6-1/2" at the VMI Winter Relays. The throw broke a 16 year school record of 62' 7-1/2" set by Sheldon Johnson in 1984. The mark was also an NCAA Provisional distance and would set the Southern Conference record.
