Women's Soccer 2/22/2001 8:31:00 PM Southern Conference Boston Breakers To Train at UNCG GREENSBORO, NC -- The Boston Breakers will prepare for the inaugural season of the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) by training for two weeks at UNCG beginning March 1.Boston's 28-player squad features U.S. National Team and international standouts. The team will hold two-a-day training sessions on campus and play four games while in North Carolina. The Breakers are scheduled to play two games at UNCG -- against Clemson on March 10 and against the Spartans on March 13. Both contests will be at 7 pm and will be free and open to the public. The team is scheduled to play at Duke on March 6 and at UNC Chapel Hill on March 8.Boston's roster includes U.S. National Team veterans and UNC Chapel Hill standouts Kristine Lilly, Robin Confer and Tracy Ducar as well as Dagny Mellgren, who is best remembered for scoring the winning goal in Norway's 2-1 Gold Medal Game victory over the U.S. in last year's Olympics. The Breakers' roster also includes German World Cup and Olympic team players Bettina Wiegmann and Maren Meinert as well as the Tar Heels' Keri Raygor, Notre Dame's Kate Sobrero and Meotis Erikson, Clemson's Lindsay Massengale and Nebraska's Karina LeBlanc.Jay Hoffman, a former college and professional coach who has been with the U.S. Soccer Federation since 1977, is coach of the Boston team. Most recently, he served as head scout for the U.S. Men's Team at the 2000 Olympics. He was an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team from 1998-2000.The Breakers will join the other WUSA teams in San Diego, CA, for pre-season training March 18-31. Their season opener is April 21 against the Carolina Courage in Chapel Hill, NC.
