Bailey, Bowden Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Western Carolina's Caleb Bailey and Appalachian State's Kristen Bowden have been named the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field athletes of the week for February 14.

A sophomore from Lawrenceville, GA, Bailey competed in the 800-meter, mile and the 1200-meter leg of the distance medley relay at the Iowa State Classic on February 9-10. He broke the WCU indoor track record for the 800-meters with his time of 1:53.48, the top time in the SoCon this season. He also ran a 4:17.66 in the mile and a 3:03 in his 1200-meter leg in the relay. Both were personal bests for Bailey. He ranks seventh in the conference in the mile.

A senior from Conover, NC, Bowden jumped 41' 9.75" in the triple jump at the Pepsi Invitational at Virginia Tech on February 10. The distance qualifies her provisionally for the NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships on March 9-10. She is currently listed 13th nationally on the NCAA list. The jump broke the App State school record which was 41' 6" set in 1995.
