DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Senior Jeremy Hart (MacArthur, W.Va.) won his 100th match at Appalachian as the Mountaineers defeated Davidson, 40-3, in Southern Conference wrestling action Feb. 7.
The Mountaineers (5-4, 4-0 SoCon) clinched at least a share of the Southern Conference regular season championship. A win Friday night at VMI would give them t heir seventh SoCon title and sixth in the past seven years.
Hart scored 11 points in the third period of his match against Grant Doornbos to gain a 13-3 major decision. The two-time defending SoCon champion is now 5-2 on the year.
The match began with a 10-2 major decision by P.J. Boccia (Milford, Mass.) at 157-pounds. That was followed by the Wildcats' (6-9, 0-3) only win, a 5-4 overtime victory by Mark O'Hair.
The Mountaineers swept the final eight matches, get ting pins from 197-pounder Geoff McIntosh (Sherrills Ford, N.C.) and heavyweight Danny Misenheimer (Salisbury, N.C.). Besides Hart and Boccia, ASU also got major decisions from Kyle Spencer (Trinity, N.C.) at 174-pounds, Sean McIntosh (Sherrills Ford, N.C.) at 184 and Travis Drake (Cheraw, S.C.) at 133.
