VMI Track Team Shines

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Against a field consisting of some of the elite programs in the nation, including teams from the ACC and SEC, VMI's men's indoor track and field team placed in the top 10 of five different events at the Pepsi Valentine's Invitational held at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House on Feb. 9-10.

The performances were highlighted by a third place finish from senior John Chisholm Riviera, Fla. (Westlake (Md.)) in the 35 lb. weight throw. Chisholm set a mark of 18.06 meters in the event. He also placed 10th in the shot put event, earning a mark of 14.76 meters.

Senior Chris Green (Richmond, Va./ Virginia Commonwealth) placed seventh in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:33.55. Freshman Derik Screen (Lynchburg, Va./ Heritage) came in ninth place in the triple jump with a jump of 14.60 meters. Freshman J.B. Rosson (Keezletown, Va./ Spotswood) rounded out the top ten finishers, tying for 10th in the pole vault with a mark of 4.60 meters.

The women's team was led by senior Rachel Love (Emmaus, Pa./ Emmaus), who placed 14th in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:15.27.

The Keydets return to action February 23 and 24, when they compete in the Southern Conference Championships in Johnson City, Tenn.
