Davidson Soccer Teams Receive Academic Honors

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America and adidas has announced the men's and women's College Team Academic Awards. The teams, which represent all levels of play from NCAA Division I to NAIA, are compiled and nominated by NSCAA coaches from around the country.

On the men's side, as a team the Wildcats combined for a 3.14 GPA during the 1999-00 academic year.

It was the fourth time Davidson has been rewarded for its achievements. Davidson was the only Southern Conference school to be recognized and only one of 13 Division I schools to make the list.

The women's team averaged a 3.25 GPA during the 1999-00 academic year. This was the fifth time the 'Cats have earned this honor. Furman was the only other Southern Conference school to make the list, with a 3.09 GPA.

Davidson was one of only five Division I schools in which both the men's and women's teams were given the award.

The award is based on the academic performance of a team during the previous academic year (both semesters). The men's side featured 34 programs, while the women boasted 104 schools earning the award. To be eligible for the award a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 for the year based on a 4.00 scale.
