The Citadel Sets Track Records

Charleston, SC - The Citadel track and field team set a school record for the second straight weekend, while three personal bests fell as the Bulldogs competed in the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, TN over the weekend.

Sharon Hacker claimed her second indoor school record, this week in 3,000 meters with a time of 11:19.21. The record belonged to Mandy Garcia who ran 11:21.50 in 1998. Sharon set the mark on Saturday after dropping out of the 5,000 due to illness. Tony Kimbrough claimed the sixth best 1,000 meter time in school history with a 2:25.40 mark as well.

Personal bests in the meet went to Jeff Witherspoon in the 60 meters (7.06), which is the sixth fastest time ever and Rob Nichols in the 500 meters with the fourth best time ever 1:07.79. Brad Perricelli also ran his best 800 meters ever with a time of 1:59.18.

Quentin Armstrong was the only Bulldog to place in the meet which features 30 teams. He was seventh in the shot with a throw of 50-3.25.

The Bulldogs will send the sprinters, jumpers and throwers to Tennessee next Friday in what will be the final tune-up for the indoor conference championships.
