Davidson Falls to Anderson in Wrestling, 30-13

DAVIDSON, NC - Four Wildcat wrestlers notched victories, but it wasn't enough as the Davidson wrestling team dropped a 30-13 decision to Anderson in its opening dual meet of the 2001-02 year.

Junior Jeff Storms opened the contest with a 2-0 decision over Josh Hawkins in the 197-pound weight class. After two scoreless periods, Storms used a reversal in the third period to claim his first win of the season.

The visiting Trojans, however, took the next four matches to grab a commanding 21-3 lead.

Sophomore Adam Sperling (149) gave the 'Cats their second triumph of the day as he earned a 7-6 decision over Eddie Vasques. With the score tied at 6-6 at the start of the final period, Sperling rode out Vasques for the remaining time, giving him the final point.

At 157 pounds, senior Jeff Bender won in convincing fashion, 10-2, over Josh Merry. Behind four takedowns in the opening period, senior Jeff Libersat (184) tallied Davidson's final victory of the day.

The Wildcats next compete at the Sunshine Open in Florida at the end of the month, Dec. 28 and 29.
