Kent State Handles The Citadel's Wrestlers, 25-9 (Nov. 30)

CHARLESTON, SC -- Mike Regner defeated his Kent State opponent in the 174-lb. weight class. Kent State's Joe DiMichelle stopped The Citadel's Sean Markey, 10-8 in the 133-pound weight class in the feature match to propel the Golden Flashes to a 25-9 win over the Bulldogs in intercollegiate wrestling Friday afternoon in McAlister Field House.

Kent, now 3-0 in dual matches this season, is a perennial power in the Mid-American Conference. The Bulldogs drop their dual opener.

The Citadel was led by Southern Conference Champion and two-time NCAA qualifier Mike Regner in the 174-lb. class as the Mt. Pleasant native defeated Kenny Clark, 6-0. Other winners for The Citadel include Wayne Watts of Riverton, VT at 149-pounds and Troy Bartges of Goose Creek in the heavyweight division.

The Bulldogs will host The Citadel Invitational on Saturday, with eight teams participating in matches that begin at 9 a.m. in McAlister Field House and the finals are set for approximately 6 p.m. Wrestling with The Citadel during the one-day event will be Chattanooga, Duke, Campbell, UNC Pembroke, Gardner-Webb and Binghamton (NY) University.
