Men's Soccer 10/25/2001 2:47:00 AM Southern Conference Wofford Edges The Citadel 4-3 in Double Overtime Spartanburg, SC -- Tim Mittmann notched a goal with just three minutes remaining in double overtime to give the Terriers a key Southern Conference men's soccer victory Wednesday night. His goal was the tiebreaker in Wofford's 4-3 victory over The Citadel on Snyder Field.With the win, Wofford (4-8-1, 1-3-1 SoCon) keeps its hopes alive for a berth in the upcoming Southern Conference Tournament.The Terriers looked at first as if they might run away with the game, as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. Zach Strable opened up the scoring with a goal just 1:35 in the game on an excellent throw-in by Michael Gonzales. Gonzales added a score of his own at the 19:30 mar, assisted by Chris O'Neill and Gray Camp. O'Neill rounded out the first-half lead with a goal at 34:08 assisted by Strable and Michael Kozak.The Citadel would battle back, though. Pedro Oliver made the Bulldogs' first score less than a minute after Wofford's third, assisted by Michael Beecher. Beecher would cut the lead to one on an unassisted rebound goal a minute before halftime. Early in the second period, The Citadel's Dennis Peeters tied the score at 3-3 with a goal assisted by Beecher and Ben Wilson.The tie would remain intact until Mittman's goal in the 117th minute. The saving goal was the first of the season for the freshman from Spartanburg. Bulldog goalkeeper Josh Clayman had seven saves on the night. Woff'rd Eric Williams tallied five.Wofford will return to Snyder Field for its final home match of the season Saturday evening at 7 pm, when the Terriers take on College of Charleston. The Bulldogs will return home to face Georgia Southern on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
