Women's Soccer 10/19/2001 4:32:00 AM Southern Conference Women's Soccer Wrap-up for October 17 UNC Asheville Gets Past The Citadel, 10-2ASHEVILLE, NC - Kelsey Dawson (Huntersville, N.C.) and Ellen Sims (Signal Mountain, TN) scored three goals to lead UNC Asheville to a 10-2 women's soccer victory over The Citadel Wednesday afternoon at a cold and windy Greenwood Field.The win by UNCA (5-6-0) was its second straight victory and gave them one more win than the Bulldogs had all of last year. Asheville finished with a 4-11-1 record last season. The Citadel, a first-year program, fell to 3-11-0.Also having a great match for UNC Asheville was freshman forward Olivia Korman (Chapel Hill, NC). She scored two goals and tied a school record for assists in a single game with four. The Citadel was led by freshman sensation Kelly Pesterfield (Goose Creek, SC). Pesterfield scored both of the Bulldogs' goals to give her 17 on the season. Pesterfield has scored 17 of Citadel's 18 goals scored as team this year."We were sloppy early but Pesterfield is a very good scorer," stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We played much better in the second and scored some nice goals. I like the way we moved the ball around and were able to find people in scoring positions."Asheville got goals from Sims and Dawson in the first 6:39 of the game to jump out to a 2-0 lead. But The Citadel answered right back as Pesterfield scored goals at the 11:08 and 17:30 mark to tie the game at 2-2.Korman scored one minute after Pesterfield scored her second goal to give UNCA the lead for good at 3-2. Dawson added her second goal at the 36:11 mark to push the Asheville lead to 4-2 at the half.UNCA put the game away early in the second half with five goals in the first 14 minutes to lead, 9-2. The goal-scoring barrage began at the 47:11 mark on a goal from Bridget Goss (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and finished up with Sims' second goal of the game at the 59:32 mark. Sims finished up the scoring at the 80:11 mark.UNC Asheville will host Charleston Southern in a key Big South Conference game Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
