Morrell's Blast Gives Cougars Silver Cup, 1-0 Victory

CHARLESTON, SC - Tessa Morrell found the back of the net just sixteen seconds into overtime to give the College of Charleston a 1-0 victory over Charleston Southern in women's soccer action Tuesday night at Patriots Point.

The Silver Cup, the trophy awarded to the winner of the Charleston Southern versus the College of Charleston match each year, returned the College of Charleston for the first time since 1998.

Morrell, a sophomore from Council Rock, PA, tallied her game-winning goal on her third shot of the match by beating Lady Buccaneer keeper Susan Anderson. CofC goalkeeper Alice Kenney recorded four saves while Anderson made nine stops for Charleston Southern.

The overtime contest featured a total of 40 fouls. The Lady Buccaneers were whistled for 24 infractions.

Charleston Southern returns to action October 20, at UNC Asheville while the Cougars travel to Davidson for a 7:00pm match on October 19.
