Southern Conference Announces Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Southern Conference announced today the Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Ryan Kendall and Tyleanna Hanner from Chattanooga have been selected for the week of January 24. Evan Hawkins and Roselin Addo from East Tennessee State were named the athletes of the week for January 17.

Kendall, a freshman from Pickering, Ontario, won the mile and 800-meters at the Middle Tennessee State Indoor Track Invitational on January 20. He finished the indoor mile in 4:08.74 and the 800-meters in a time of 1:54.46. Both times are the best performances in the SoCon this season. A senior from Chattanooga, TN, Hanner took home the Lady Mocs only first place finish at the Middle Tennessee State Indoor Invitational with her 18-11 distance in the long jump. Hanner also placed second in the 200-meters (24.99) and seventh in the triple jump (34-11).

Hawkins and Addo were selected as the athletes of the week for their performances at the Rod McCray Memorial Track Meet at the University of Kentucky. Both athletes shattered schools records in the 400-meters. Hawkins, a senior from Knoxville, TN, set the school record and personal best in the 400-meters with a time of 47.82, just .71 off the Southern Conference record. He finished third behind two NCAA All-Americans and the 2000 NCAA Champion in the event. Addo, a junior from Newbury, England, won the 400-meters with her time of 56.07, only 1.07 off the NCAA Provisional time.
