UTC's Womack Earns Outstanding Athlete Honor

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---Chattanooga cross country signee Shannon Wommack was named the Atlanta Track Club's Most Outstanding Female Athlete for the year 2000, the club announced this week.

Wommack, a native of Conyers, Ga., has won back-to-back state cross country titles for Heritage High School. She also has four state track titles to her credit.

"This is a great way to end the season," Wommack said. "I have been a little overwhelmed lately with all the recognition I have been receiving and from my signing with UTC."

The senior won all but one race this past season. She picked up seven victories and posted the state's fastest times on five of the courses, as well as the fastest time of the day for all classes at the state meet.

Wommack won the Class 5A title in a time of 19:05, over one minute faster than the runner-up.
